Frequently asked questions

Does a garden sauna need a building permit in Switzerland?
Usually yes. Many cantons only exempt unheated or very small outbuildings. The rules of all 26 cantons are in our building permit overview.
How much does an outdoor sauna cost?
Small barrel saunas with an electric heater start at around CHF 5,000 to 6,000; sauna cabins often cost CHF 10,000 to 20,000 and more. Foundation, electrical connection and transport come on top.
Can I put a sauna in the garden if I rent?
Only with your landlord's written consent. In a condominium (Stockwerkeigentum) the owners' association usually has to agree too.
Wood or electric heater?
A wood stove needs no high-voltage supply and creates atmosphere, but requires a chimney and firewood. An electric heater is convenient but usually needs a 400 V connection. See our comparison.
What does the service cost?
Nothing for you. The request is free and without obligation.
